I was talking to client this morning who was in pretty bad shape when he started with us.
To be honest, health-wise, he was completely fucked.
It was as simple as that- no need to dress it up.
When he was 140kg and getting bigger every year.
He had no energy, brutal nutrition and lifestyle habits and a complete lack of fitness (stamina, endurance, strength, etc.).
He was inn his own personal Mordor (not a nice place to be) and he wasn’t happy.
Talking to him this morning he can now bang out push ups, exercises 4-5 days a week, can run 30 minutes without stopping (he nearly died the first time he tried to run for 1 minute) can deadlift 1110kg, bench press 97.5kg and has come off medication he was told he wouldn’t be coming off.
Just this week one of his fit friends was telling him that he was aiming to row 500m in under 1:50 minutes but couldn’t get past 1:53 minutes. He said he give it a go and completed it in 1:43 minutes.
He has also dropped down multiple jean sizes and looks and feels like a completely different person.
Great story for sure but it was such hard work to break the destructive mindset that had gotten him into this rut and was trying very hard to no let him escape.
So here’s the point of my story. He had to make several massive positive changes in his life on a consistent basis to achieve what he has achieved.
Drinking a bit more water, going for a few walks and continuing on with all the negative behaviours just didn’t cut it. Sure he could have looked back and said “I gave it a shot” but in reality he would have done very little.
A compelling future that was worth fighting for and a vision of a high quality life to share with family and friends was the driving force that finally made him put in the huge effort required to drag himself out of his personal rut.
Take home golden nugget of wisdom
Understand that your health, fitness and quality of life will reward you in direct proportion to the effort you put into them. If you’re in a bad place you’re going to have to take massive, smart action at some point.
Can you even remember the last time you made a massive, positive change in your life?
Today is as good a time as any and here is a great place to start
