The vast majority of our clients are looking for the exact same things:
- drop the junk weight
- increase their energy
- look better
- fit into their clothes- usually old clothes that no longer fit
- Be fit, strong and mobile
- have a good quality of life
This shouldn’t be a tough task to achieve but it’s something that most people struggle with.
And it’s not that they don’t know what to do. That part is simple:
- Exercise regularly
- Eat healthier
- Make better lifestyle decisions on a consistent basis
While knowing what to do is easy, actually doing it is much harder. Not because people don’t want to do it, but because of many other factors such as past failures, information overload, contradicting information, underestimating or ignoring the psychological components of making changes, etc.
In this post I want to talk about the 3 most valuable nutritional tips I give my clients and help them to implement.
By focusing on nothing but these 3 things and giving them enough time to take effect I have seen so many clients transform their physiques and quality of life.
They’re not a bit sexy so most of you won’t apply them and that’s fine. They don’t involve doing a detox, performing the latest juicing diet or eating the latest miracle food such as Goji berries.
They’re far more boring and powerful than that.
Here they are. The 3 thing that when applied have the biggest impact on client results when trying to get out of a rut and achieve a decent level of health- especially in the initial stages of their program.
1. Drink more water
Without a doubt this has the fastest impact on how people feel. Less headaches, handle stress better, more energy and better able to focus are just some of the immediate results that our clients feel.
We tell them aim for 2 litres a day.
Why? Because it’s easy to measure and track and is much more than they are currently drinking.
It’s also a simple habit to develop so the client also gets an early victory which feels great and sets them up for future success with more challenging habits.
Start here if you’re not already doing this.
2. Stop eating so much processed food
I will admit that this is much easier said than done.
Lifetime habits of eating waffles, cheap crisps, fizzy drinks (including diet drinks), deli/hot counter processed meats and takeaways don’t die easily.
The key to change in this area is to pick one thing and work at it until it becomes a habit. You can then move onto the next, do the same and move on again.
I have never seen anyone go cold turkey on removing a lot of junk from their diet. Just think of all the new year resolutions. They all tend to take the “all or nothing” approach- how long do they last.
Answer: not long
3. Stop eating so much carbs- you need a better balance
These include breads, cereals, rice, potatoes, pastas, biscuits, fizzy drinks, alcohol, excessive amounts of fruit, chocolate, juice drinks, sweets, crisps, pastries and most things with extra sugar added (including many “diet’ and “fat free” products).
Too many people eat way too much carbs and way too little healthy fats and healthy proteins.
By simply cutting down on the amount of carbs they eat and getting a better balance that includes healthy fats, proteins and carbs (they’re not all bad!!!), we have seen clients come back from the dead, gain bundles of energy, drop a ton of energy-sucking junk weight and look like new people.
They are also fuller for longer, less likely to snack on junk food, have steady energy levels for the day and look so much healthier. Compare that to their old selves and it’s hard to believe it’s the same person.
So there you go. The top 3 nutrition tips that we use to get our clients the results that they want. And for anyone that takes action with them they never fail to deliver.
They’re not sexy but they’re super effective so if you’re not doing them yet, start today and give them 3-6 months- you won’t believe the difference.
