“If you can see it, have the courage enough to speak it, believe in it, then it will happen”
They are the words of UFC fighter Conor McGregor after he claimed the world championship belt this past week.
Conor has undoubtedly become one of the worlds most lucrative sports people after knocking out Jose Aldo with one punch after just 13 seconds of combat. Jose Aldo was the undefeated champion for the past 10 years!!!
Listening to press conferences and interviews with Conor he speaks very differently to other fighters and sports people. He has been likened to Muhammad Ali in his brashness and his fight predictions. This is most refreshing in a sports world where humbleness and cliches live large when it comes to media.
“I have always been fascinated by movement…I have always been learning and trying to apply different movement to my game…I feel in control and free”
Just as everyone else I have been watching his interviews intently trying to break down his words and gestures, trying to make sense of how someone can predict such an outcome each time. Then it hit me, I found out why Conor can say he will do something and then do it time after time.
He ’embraces the process’.
Yes he says that he will beat a guy and yes he says that he will become champion but he backs it up constantly. He embraces the process of how to get to those positions. He buys into the training regime, the food, he trusts his coach, he trusts his country will follow him globally and that is why he succeeds.
So, in light of the new year when you are setting goals and saying you will do X, Y and Z remember to set out the entire process, embrace it, follow it and see where you are in 3, 6 or 12 months time.
Embrace the process, love learning, like to find out new things and you will grow into what it is you want to become.
Happy Christmas to all of our blog readers!
