It’s 8.13am on a Monday morning as I write this.
I’ve just finished up a great session with a group of clients and coach Eoin is currently working with 2 more clients on their goals. That’s a great way to start a Monday 🙂
And while I can honestly say that they are all flying it now compared to when they first started, every one of them faced challenges in the beginning that could easily have made them quit- challenges around food, time demands, mindset, past gym experiences, etc.
But one of the things that stands out the most is that the majority of them had tried so many times to get started before and failed to make any real progress. After a while they slipped back into old habits and ended up back at square 1- the exact place that they said they didn’t want to be.
And every time they failed in the past, they promised themselves that they would get started again. And they did, only to quit again. And then they done it again. For whatever4 reason, they repeatedly ‘got started’ but failed to realise their goals.
Until that one glorious time when they got started and didn’t quit- they just kept on going. When someone truly gets started and starts living a healthier lifestyle, it’s always because of a shift in mindset.
Something clicked that made them say ‘this will be the last time I ‘get started’.
This is something I see so often. People always ‘getting started’ without ever ‘truly’ getting started. And by getting started, I simply mean taking care of their basic health and fitness needs- regular exercise, healthier nutrition, good sleeping patterns, a hydrated body, etc. Just living a healthier lifestyle so that they can enjoy life more- better relationships, more energy for children, a more focused mind for work, a more resilient body that supports their hobbies, etc.
And while every fit and healthy person gets started for the final time at some stage in their life, it doesn’t mean they don’t ever face challenges, slip-ups or times when a healthy lifestyle seems like a chore. It also doesn’t mean that they quit having nights out and enjoy pizza, chocolate and ice cream with their family.
What it does mean is that they get clarity on the huge benefits that keeping themselves fit, healthy and strong has on them as a person and those around them. They are able to project their thinking into the future to see how it will benefit them further down the line. The see the futility of ‘getting started’ every few months and the importance of ‘getting started’ one final time.
And when they do get started for the last time, they accept that there will be times when they need to scale things back a bit as life gets demanding and a little crazy. They accept that they may fall off track every now and then and that’s fine as it’s all part of the journey- life happens and will always happen!
Summary
At some stage you need to get started for the last time, and when you accept this you’ll see that it’s so much easier than doing it repeatedly every couple of months to years.
As with everything in life, today is a great day to get started, so why not pick one thing right now to move you closer towards your goals of a healthier, fitter lifestyle? Why not go for a walk, drink 2 litres of water or go to bed 30 minutes earlier?
Why not schedule in a gym session this evening or book that class you always wanted to do.
Adopt this mindset if you’re a repeat ‘getting started’ offender and watch your quality of life change.
Constantly getting started will drain the energy and desire to change out of you so commit to leaving this habit in your past. Our 1 week trial membership is a great place to get started for anyone who hasn’t trained with us before, so click the link below for full details if you’re ready too get started for the final time.

So true! I can totally relate to this – the starting, stopping, starting and stopping again. But I can pretty much say that after joining with you guys recently, this time definitely will be the last time I get started! You make the commitment easy!

Thanks for the kind words Aine. You’re flying it since you’ve come on board and are really going about your goals with the right mindset, which is the most important key to longterm results, sustainability, etc.
Keep up the great work and be sure to let us know if there is anything we can do to support you along the way.
