Without a doubt one of the biggest obstacles people face when trying to get fit and healthy is time.
There just doesn’t seem to be enough of it.
At least that’s what a lot of people tell themselves but that excuse doesn’t hold up to the fact that the majority of our clients are SUPER BUSY PEOPLE.
- Business owner
- Mothers and fathers with a ton of family commitments- school runs, meals to prepare, after school sports, etc.
- Business executives who travel a lot
- Highly demanding jobs- long hours, tough project deadlines, etc.
Or, in some cases, all of the above!!!
And while they are all very busy people, they all manage their health and fitness to a high degree.
While their short term goals may differ, their long term goals don’t. They simply want to be fit and healthy so they can avoid unnecessary illness (as much as possible), be more productive at work and enjoy life with their children, wives/husbands, friends, etc.
That’s it. Have as much of an impact on their health as possible while still being able to enjoy life.
So here are 4 common traits that we see with our successful clients
1) They all have a coach
I can’t stress enough how important this is.
A good quality coach will design great programs that deliver results, guide with you appropriate advice relevant to your specific situation and goals and just be there to support you.
Also, the accountability that a coach provides is one of the most powerful aspects of exercise. Nobody wants to tell their coach that they 2 mars bars, a can of coke and skipped their exercise when they promised that they wouldn’t!!
Take home message- HAVING A GREAT COACH IS VITAL IF YOU’RE SERIOUS ABOUT OPTIMAL RESULTS
2) There’s no drama attached to exercise
People who succeed with health and fitness simply accept it as part of their lives.
They don’t stress or complain about it.
They don’t get worked up if they miss a session every now and then.
They don’t try and make it out to be something that it’s not- like the focal point of their life.
They make a bit of time for it, enjoy it (most of the time :)) and get on with their day.
Take home message- DROP THE DRAMA AND SCHEDULE TIME FOR TO MANAGE YOUR HEALTH ND FITNESS
3) They have a life
Piggybacking off the above point, exercise and healthy eating isn’t the be all and end all for them.
I see this with a lot of people. They decide to fit and healthy and:
- Drop all the bad habits overnight
- Afraid to have a night out
- Scared to death of eating a bar of chocolate or having a glass of wine
- Think they gain 2 stone if they have a pizza —->>> I swear you won’t
Who wants to live like that? A life where you can’t make room for what you enjoy.
The big difference is that these people enjoy the “BAD STUFF” in moderation. They know they can head away for the weekend and let loose a bit.
They’ve done the work and have a great foundation of health and fitness to support them. They can handle that bottle 1/2 bottle glass of wine, burger (feel free to leave the bun on) and a few chips if that’s what they want.
Take home message- CHILL OUT A BIT (BUT NOT ALL THE TIME!)
4) They don’t have an end date
Every single one of our successful clients looks at their exercise as a long term venture.
There’s no “I’ll do a few weeks and then see if I want to carry on.”
Or
“If I have a busy couple of months I’ll let the exercise thing go.”
They’ll do it in spite of being busy and under pressure.
Do they ever take time off? Of course they do.
Holidays come around. They or a family member might be sick or they might get super busy at work and have to reschedule a few sessions.
But 90% of the time, bar an absolute disaster, they get in and follow their exercise plan and eat pretty healthy.
Take home message- ACCEPT YOUR HEALTH AND FITNESS AS A LIFE LONG PROCESS
So there you go. If just struggle to be fit and healthy but really want to change that, adopt the traits of our successful clients and their
