With January coming to and end, the initial drive and excitement that most people felt at the start of the month towards their health and fitness routine can start to dwindle.
This can lead to old habits rearing their ugly heads, and as a result, the quality of our training sessions and our desired results can take a massively unwanted nosedive.
But like most things in life, whether or not this happens to you ultimately boils down to the choices you make.
So if you’re serious about getting into the gym and making that time count, here’s 1 simple way you can get the most return from the your gym sessions so that you are still going strong long after January has passed.
Leave your phone in your car!
Phones are one of the biggest distractions when it comes to having a quality workout. Social media notifications, taking selfies, email alerts, ringtones and the urge to just check it for the fear of missing out (FOMO) massively reduce your ability to focus on the task at hand- having a great workout
Phones have become more of a fashion accessory than anything else, and nobody is that in demand that they can’t go without it for an hour or less when they hit the gym.
In our facility, we respect the fact that clients pay us a monthly fee to train with us, and to give them the best service possible, we don’t allow phones in the gym (except if there’s a potential emergency of course- we’re not that bad.)
If we see someone 2-3 times a week then we need to make that time count, and phones simply don’t allow that to happen at a meaningful level.
We have clients who run multiple businesses, have over 200 employees, 3-5 kids, etc., and never, ever, ever bring their phones into the gym with them.
They are serious about getting a quality workout in so that it benefits their quality of life and moves them closer to their goals.
They leave their phone in the car, get a great workout in, and then follow up with missed calls, emails, etc. after they have finished.
They remove potential distraction by not bringing it with them in the first place, instead of having it in arms reach where FOMO is constantly pushing them to check if they’ve missed anything.
Contrary to that, we used to also have clients that would rock up to the gym, for their session, and then constantly check their phones every few minutes.
They’d reply to text messages, take phone calls, send emails, etc., and literally get one of the lowest quality workouts possible because they weren’t present and were constantly breaking any bit of momentum they had built up.
And besides being a huge distraction for themselves, it’s also a massive distraction for other clients who are constantly getting disrupted by chirping birds, silly ringtones and other annoying noises.
One of the easiest things in the world is to tell people how serious you are about doing something, and this is especially true when it comes to the gym.
People love to big themselves up about their training, but your actions speak much louder than your words, and nothing shouts “I’m not really that interested in having a quality workout” louder than checking your phone during your workouts.
So leave the phone in your car and give your workout 100% focus. You’ll see that you didn’t miss a thing while you were sweating it out in the gym, you’ll enjoy your workouts so much more, and you may even achieve the results that have eluded you for so long.
That’s not an unreasonable trade off is it?
Don’t forget that registration for our 6 Week January Fat Loss Challenge closes on Monday, so click the relevant link below if you’re still looking for the right program to kickstart your 2019 fitness goals.
