It’s Monday and that means it’s blog time and todays content is really powerful if you want it to be.
Often when I’m talking to people about getting fit and healthy they tell me that it seems like such a big effort to do the simple things consistently like exercise, drink water, eat healthier, etc. They often say they know what to do but still struggle to actually do it for any meaningful amount of time.
I’m going to go off track for a second here with this next point but I promise I’ll tie it all together quickly.
At the moment I’m really in the zone with a particular area of my personal and business life- my finances. An area most people don’t often like to talk about, including, myself.
You see my self and my family are looking to buy our first house and I’m really working hard to drive my business forward so that it is profitable and successful. A huge part of this is getting stuck into the nitty gritty of money side of things and I won’t lie, it’s not an area I’m comfortable in.
So, as I’m constantly promoting to anyone who’ll listen, I’ve committed to getting educated in the things I don’t know about too well but need to learn. In this case it’s personal and business finances.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m by no means terrible in this area but to step things up a notch I need to improve my knowledge. Simple as that.
Last night the fire alarm in the gym went off (twice in fact- long night!!!) so as I drove up to sort it out I listed to a financial strategy video on youtube and came away with a solid lesson regarding health and wellbeing.
It was about the 4 stages of learning anything that we all go through and getting to the fourth stage is where the magic happens. If you’re looking to get fit and healthy and enjoy the huge benefits of a high quality life then pay attention.
As we go through them please remember that incompetence simply means the inability to do something successfully and I’m talking about it in terms of your health, fitness and quality of life.
Stage 1- Unconscious incompetence
In this stage people don’t are completely switched off to the fact that they don’t know how to succeed with their health and fitness. Even if they’re in a bad place it mightn’t even be registering on their radar. Living on processed junk, being excessively overweight to the point where it’s affecting their living standards,, smoking, being dehydrated, not eating vegetables, etc. is just normal and there’s nothing wrong with that in their perception of life. This is a bad place to be but thankfully I think less and less people are living here.
Stage 2- Conscious incompetence
This is a big one for many people. In this stage people are aware of their situation and that they currently do not have the skills, knowledge and resources to get out of it. This is when people start to look at how to change their habits, research stuff on line, contact health professionals, etc. They still haven’t committed to it but it’s definitely on their radar.
Stage 3- Conscious Competence
This stage is where a lot of people struggle and, unfortunately. fail. In this stage, people must consciously put in the effort to do the things that they have accepted must be done in order to change their circumstances. This could include making time to exercise, learning how to cook pdf prepare healthier meals, go to bed earlier, get help with their smoking, start eating vegetables and drinking more water, etc.
Often these new habits are the complete opposite of what they and those closest too them have been doing. It requires patience, education and grit to keep doing them until they become second nature, through persistence, they inevitably will.
Stage 4- Unconscious Competence
Tjis is where the magic happens and your quality of life has the ability to take off. In this stage you are doing the things that make you feel fit, healthy, strong and energised without them taking too much effort. 8am Sunday morning arrive and you find yourself out walking before the rest of the house has even stirred. This took a huge effort before but now it’s no big deal.
Your driving home from work and without thinking you take the turn-off for the gym. That didn’t take any willpower at all but it hides the efforts of the previous 4 months when you had to consciously remind yourself to turn right for the gym!
Saturday morning and you’re whipping up an omelette packed with veg instead of a fry. That took a bit of getting used to but now- “Why wouldn’t I have an omelette? They’re delicious!”

I’ve seen so many clients make their way through these 4 stages and come out of it completely different people. They’ve had to overcome many challenges but had a strong enough ‘WHY’ to drive them forward towards the quality of life they wanted so I know it can do the same for you.
