As I mentioned a few blogs ago, when you train people long enough you start to see patterns emerging. Truths that become so obvious they can’t be ignored.
And when it comes to people who live fit, healthy and high quality lives, you’ll notice the same patterns over and over again. The same traits that they all share that allows them to be successful in achieving their goals and sustaining them longterm.
You’ve probably heard the saying ‘success leaves clues’ so adopting the traits of these people is one of the best things you can do. If it worked for them it will probably work for you too.
- No drama associated with living a healthy life. It’s just part of what they do and who they are.
- They surround themselves with an uplifting and supportive community. Fun, social interaction and a support network they can relate to make the journey so much easier.
- They choose their social circle wisely. They understand and accept that you become the people you spend most of your time with. If you want to be healthy, fit and have a great quality life then don’t spend your time with unhealthy people who complain all day and eat junk food at every meal.
- They’ve developed the ability how to overcome challenges. They understand and expect that life often seems to try hard to stop them from being fit and healthy. So when it happens it’s much easier to work around it.
- They harness the power of having a coach. Guidance, a workable plan of action and accountability are worth their weight in gold to them.
- They consistently focus on the big picture. They have zero interest in short term success that is fleeting in nature. Longterm sustainability is their only concern.
- They enjoy life. They understand that nights out, eating their favourite foods , etc. all have a place in their plan. They just don’t do it every day!
- They don’t shout about their health and fitness all over Facebook. They just get in, get it done and get on with it. You definitely won’t find that every 2nd post on their page is a picture of their breakfast. They understand no-one really cares to that extent.
- They have a big why for being healthy and fit- ability to play with children, combating illness, work performance, reduced stress and anxiety, improved confidence. If you don’t have a WHY, you don’t have a hope
- They’re consistent. Of course life-stuff happens every now and then that throws a spanner in the works, but overall, they eat healthy and keep themselves fit week in, week out.
- They have an ability to listen and implement what they learn. They spend less time on debating ideas and more time taking action on them.
- They have high standards of what is acceptable for them as a person. Eg. smoking is not acceptable Binge eating for 4 days is not acceptable. Incessant complaining is not acceptable- they are proactive instead of reactive.
- They take full responsibility for their actions. They understand that between stimulus and response, they have the ability to choose their actions (A concept I learned from the writings of Viktor Frankl to give credit).
- They have healthy outlets for stress- charity work, hobbies, purposeful work, etc. None of them are binge watching on Netflix for 5 days straight!
- They are open-minded to change and better ways. One of the most important skills for lifelong health is not to be stuck in your ways and close-minded o trying different things, especially when they have been proven to work.
- They are organised. A disorganised life has halted more peoples health and fitness attempts than anything else I can think of. Get yourself together and plan your week some way decently and you’ll be amazed by the difference.
- They adopt the concept of deliberate practice. Most people only take care of their health and fitness when they are feeling at their best or when they hit rock bottom. Both extremes. Healthy and fit people take care of themselves in the middle. If they’ve a bad day they’ll still eat fairly well (most of the time). Long day at work, they still get their gym session in (most of the time). Deliberately focusing on good choices in spite of not wanting to do them is another life skill worthy of development.
I hope you found this list helpful. All you need is 1 point to make a difference in your life. Success leaves clues so don’t waste time trying to come up with this stuff on your own. Follow in the steps of those who have already done what you are looking too do.
