Like everything else in life, the benefis of training follow this simple rule- if you don’t use it, you lose it.
If you want to consistently feel the benefits of training in your life you must consistently train.
In order to conistently train your reasons for doing so must be powerful enough to make you take actions.
If you don’t have powerful WHY’s for training (or anything in life) you simply won’t do it consistently.
Here are someof my WHY’s for training, in no paticuar order:
1) Disease prevention
Think type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, etc.
2) To be a great role model
Actions speak so much louder than words. By being strong, lean, energetic, athletic, etc. I show the huge benefits of being fit and healthy to my family, friends, clients and employees without having to say much
3) Physical toughness
Modern life doesn’t lend itself very well to physically challengig us. Sitting at computers all day, watching hours of t.v., driving, etc.
Past generations had much more physical lives. If i didn’t train I woud have no physical activity in my life to maintain my basic human qualities such as strength, power, agility, etc.
4) so I don’t have a gut
Seriously. Nobody wants to have a gut but so many people do due to sitting on their ass all day, eating shit and having physically unchallenging lives.
A gut looks terrible, stresses your back, is related to certain lifestyle diseases and doesn’t do anything for your confidence.
Get rid of it
5) To enjoy life.
It’s hard to enjoy life when you are as weak as water, have no energy, find simple everyday tasks a challenge and have no GO in you.
Training smacks all these problems on the head.
6) stress relief
Most people have a stressful week/day and use it as an excuse to skip training. I (and our most successful clients) use traing to unwind after stressful days/weeks.
Tough day? Hit the gym and deadlift and get rid of someof it or sit on the couch ad eat a tub of Ben & Jerry’s- your choice
7) THIS IS SPARTA
Most people are content to watch 300, Batman or the last samurai.
Instead of watching them I want to be 1 of them. What’s the closest I can get to that- flaking a punching bag, swinging off gymnastic rings, deadlift hundreds of kg, pushing myself to the limit.
Finding it tough to train today or having a pity party? Ask yourself WHAT WOULD WOLVERINE DO- he definitely wouldn’t have a moan about it.
8) A sense of accomplishment
Last week I lifted more weight than at any other time in my entire life. Do you think I felt good after that?
Of course I did. I felt like Wolverine/Batman/King Leonidas.
It took me over 6 years to do it. What a sesnse of accomplishment I felt. I also learned about patience, commiment and mental toughness.
It was worth the wait.
9) Character building
Training tells you so much about yourself. There’s no hiding.
If you don’t put th work in you can’t lie to yourself.
You going to need to dig down very deep somedays when faced with a ton of weight on the bar.
It teaches you that anything worth doing doesn’t come easy. You have to work your ass off. No exceptions.
It teaches you that moning about things doesn’t change them. You still have to do the work.
There you go guys. 9 reasons why I train and will continue to do so for life.
