As you look back over 2014 are you happy with what you achieved?
Have you spent the year wisely or has it come and gone without much to show for it?
Did you see your 2014 new year resolutions through or did you forget about them after a few weeks?
When I look back at my 2014 it’s been crazy yet very successful year for myself in many ways.
- I got married- only started planning it around March 2014 and got married in September
- Have a child on the way
- Got through the whole year without a single fizzy drink- this was a huge issue for me
- Started learning chords on the guitar which are breaking my heart 🙂
- Gotten super consistent with my training
- Hired a full time coach to help with the workload
- Developed a ton of regular habits
- Flossing
- Regular nobility/corrective work
- More time spent with family
- More time spent on my hobbies which are super important for stress relief, productivity and happiness
- Much more organised at work which I struggled with at the beginning- writing blogs, program planning, meeting with clients, etc.
Compared to the year before, my life has changed quite a bit. The key, in my opinion, was that I never made a big deal out of any of it and I done what was necessary to get to where I said I wanted to go. This is where most people get caught especially in January.
They make such a big deal out of everything as they get caught up in the new years resolutions mentality. If people just slowed down and made sustainable changes over time they would see far greater progress that would actually last and benefit their lives tremendously, just like Liam
If I decided to develop a new habit I simply focused on it for a few weeks until it became natural and then I focused on developing a new one.
When I decided to learn the guitar I booked lessons and started practicing what I learned every week.
Simple as that. No big deal or drama associated with it.
As I head into 2015 here are 10 areas, habits and challenges that I am going to focus on to make it the best year that I can.
1) Train a minimum of 5 days a week- more on why you should be doing this to come shortly
2) Spend as many weekends with my family as possible
3) Deadlift 201kg- I’ve never gotten past 200kg and it drives me nuts
4) Be able to perform 30 chin ups- currently at 16 so have a bit of work to do on this
5) Meditate daily- I struggle to do this consistently so looking to nail this habit down
6) Don’t buy any more books until I read and implement all the ones that I have
7) Delve more deeply into all the courses that I have done over the years and build them into my business
8) Complete my strength and conditioning degree
9) Get my business systems flowing much more smoothly- blogging, youtube videos, staff coaching, customer care,
10) Maintain all the great habits that I have put the effort into developing- no point going backwards
I’m not going to do all this in January or February but bit by bit I will get around to each one of them.
Sit down and have a think about what you really want, what you need to do to get there and what obstacles you face. Come up with a realistic plan and get to work.
Don’t be one of the many who burn out by the end of January and forget the powerful reasons why they wanted to change in the first place.
Take your time, decide on some meaningful changes (they differ from person to person and that’s fine) and accept that it’s a longterm journey and your chances of success skyrocket.
Train hard, train smart, stay healthy and have a great 2015
