The stories we tell ourselves every day ultimately end up becoming our reality.
Most of the time these stories are lies that hold us back from getting what we want in life but because we repeat them to ourselves so often we end up believing them
When it comes to getting fit and healthy and creating a better life for ourselves, there are 3 common lies that I repeatedly heare people telling themselves.
Like all lies, they’re bullshit stories made up to hide the truth and justifying not doing what you know needs to be done.
If you seriously want to see massive change in your health and fitness then you need to realise that these ‘truths’ are in fact ‘lies’ that need to be dumped.
- I DON’T HAVE TIME
Really?
I have clients who work full time, clients who are pregnant, clients with 5 children, clients who work abroad. Clients who travel to Europe and back almost every week. Clients who work 2 jobs. Clients who work 14 hour days a lot of the time. Clients who get up at 5am every morning.
But I understand, you’re really busy.
2. I CAN’T AFFORD IT
You can afford to walk a couple of days a week. You can afford to eat less junk. You can afford to go to bed earlier. You can afford to stop partying every weekend. You can afford to drink 2 litres of water every day. You can afford to stop smoking.
These things, if you aren’t doing them already, will have a massive impact on your health fitness and fitness, are free (unless uisce Eireann get their way!!) and will actually save you a fortune that you can re-invest into other areas of your life to improve the quality of it.
Listen guys, if you can afford to smoke, party and eat shit food, buy multiple take aways every week, eat out 4 days a week, etc. then saying you can’t afford to be healthy is simply a cop out so you don’t have to put in the effort to change.
3. I’LL GO IT ALONE
Had a great conversation with a client earlier about how the majority of people fail to get fit and healthy and have good quality lives (which is the most important goal for our clients) because most humans simply don’t handle personal responsibility well especially when it comes to managing their health.
When the going gets tough and people don’t have the accountability and supportive interaction of other like-minded people around them, the usual result is for people to drop the things that are good for them (such as exercise, hobbies and eating healthy) and replace them with the things that dig them further into a rut such as eating more junk, smoking, watching tv and mindlessly surfing social media).
And we all know how easy it is to justify not doing what we know we should be doing.
The advice that I usually give to people when they tell me they would love to be fit and healthy but one of the above things is holding them back is that they need to change the story that they are repeatedly telling themselves in their head.
You do have the time to be healthier and fitter.
You can afford to get healthier and fitter.99% of people don’t have the skills, knowledge and mindset to go it alone- find a great facility/coach if you’re serious about longterm success
Over and out for another week guys.
